Amazon to host another multi-title Mobile Masters tournament

Amazon is bringing back its esports tournament Mobile Masters this year on June 23rd-24th. The event will be hosted and broadcast from Amazon’s streaming studio in Seattle.

Amazon recently launched a competitive gaming service called GameOn, and it’ll be used to host qualifiers select titles that will be played at the tournament. There will a total prize pool of $100,000 (£73,203.50) up for grabs.

Marja Koopmans, Director of Amazon Competitive Gaming said the following about the tournament: “In talking with nWay and Game Insight, we recognized both developers were looking for ways to scale their competitive play. With GameOn, they can now run qualifiers across the globe for Mobile Masters, identify the best players in their games, award prizes to participants and nurture talent creating a stronger sense of community. We’re thrilled to help these developers realize their vision and host their top players at Mobile Masters this summer.”

Taehoon Kim, CEO of nWay commented in a statement: “Amazon’s Mobile Masters stage has given us a boost in establishing a foothold in the esports space. Now that we have integrated GameOn into Power Rangers: Legacy Wars, we’re already seeing significant growth in community engagement with our average weekly play time increasing by 28%. We’ve also seen fan interest increase around competitions and the ability to win real-world prizes. This is an incredible innovation that brings the physical and digital world together in a way that takes competitive mobile gaming to another level.”

Mobile games Power Rangers: Legacy WarsSurvival ArenaWorld of Tanks Blitz, and Critical Ops will all be featured games at the Mobile Masters, with both amateur and professional players being welcomed to take part. The first two titles mentioned will have early round qualifiers that allow players to book their place at the Mobile Masters: Power Rangers: Legacy Wars’ qualifiers are set for May 5th-13th, while Survival Arena’s qualifiers will be hosted on May 14th-21st. The teams and players set to compete, across all titles, will be revealed towards the end of the month.

Anatoly Ropotov, CEO at Game Insight added: “Survival Arena is built around tournament play, and Mobile Masters is an incredible way to celebrate our top players. Running qualifiers through GameOn allows us to identify the gamers who will earn their spot in Seattle, where we’ll find out who really has what it takes to survive. Amazon has shown a tremendous commitment to the competitive gaming scene, and with events like Mobile Masters and services like GameOn, they’re continuing to prove on that investment.”

Amazon has a dedicated area on its website for Mobile Masters, where you can sign up for the qualifiers.

Esports Insider says: Mobile Masters returning is practically proof that Amazon considered it as a success last year, which is encouraging for mobile esports. Adding more titles and increasing the prize pool is a good move, we just hope it receives a little more promotion from Amazon itself.
