Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney Donates 5,300 Acres of Land to North Carolina Conservation Group – The Esports Observer

Tim Sweeney, the founder and CEO of Fortnite maker Epic Games, has donated 7,500 acres of land in North Carolina’s Appalachian highlands to Asheville-based non-profit the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, according to a Charlotte News & Observer report

Sweeney signed a letter of intent with the non-profit on Thursday to transfer the property. The transfer of the land will be completed within a year, and is valued at “tens of millions of dollars.”

Sweeney’s donation is the largest in the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy’s history. Sweeney, a strong supporter of conservation, has been purchasing land in the area for years to keep it from being developed.

The Conservancy will own and manage the land as a nature preserve and will work with Sweeney to conduct “scientific studies.” When the land transfers, the new owners will offer tours and hikes to the public.
