Apex Legends Smashes Steam Player Count Record With Season 16 Launch

Apex Legends Season 16 has kicked off and it's brought with it a wave of new and returning players to Respawn's battle royale title. It's not unusual to see games get a bump in players at the start of a new season, but what's slightly unexpected is that Apex Legends has managed to smash its previous concurrent player record on Steam.

Before the launch of Season 16, the previous record sat at 511,676 players, which was reached shortly after the launch of Season 14. That's a pretty huge amount of people to be playing a game at one time, yet Apex Legends has managed to completely shatter that record with the launch of Season 16, which saw 610,433 players battling it out at the same time (thanks PCGamesN).

Considering that Season 16 is the first time Apex Legends hasn't introduced a new Legend since launch, those numbers are pretty impressive. However, the most likely reason for the massive bump in players is due to the long-awaited launch of Team Deathmatch. It's something the community has wanted from Apex Legends for quite a while, and must have been a big draw for a lot of people when you take into account the massive bump in players and that it's possibly the biggest new addition in Revelry.

It's pretty likely that Apex Legends has also seen a large rise in players on other platforms too, though it's pretty much impossible to find out. If you're an Apex Legends fan that is yet to return to the game for Season 16, be aware that you'll only be able to jump directly into a game of Team Deathmatch for three weeks. After that, the mode will be added to the Mixtape playlist which will rotate between Team Deathmatch, Gun Run, and Control.
