Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: A Guide To The Different Types Of Weapons
One player’s choice of weapon often differs from another, and some tend to stick with the one they are given at the beginning of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It can be tempting to try something new, but it can be worrisome seeing as you probably don’t know the mechanics of the other weapons available to you. Each weapon offers a different playstyle, and sometimes it can be worth the change.
You will earn new weapons as you venture out into the world, and you shouldn’t let them go to waste. It is often recommended you have several builds on standby in case a situation calls for other types of damage.
The first weapon you will come across in the game is called a Bearded Axe. It is a single-handed weapon and it was a favorite among real-life Vikings. This weapon is perfect for those who prefer a more balanced playstyle as it does a decent amount of damage while still leaving Eivor with plenty of speed to dodge attacks.
The types of Bearded Axes in the game include:
- Raider Axe
- Varin’s Axe
- Housecarl’s Axe
- Fyrd Axe
This is a single-handed weapon and does a little bit less damage than the Bearded Axe, but it makes up for it with speed. This is a great primary weapon, but some also carry it alongside a bearded axe in combat due to its speed.
The Hammers in the game are as follows:
- War Hammer
- Blacksmith’s Hammer
- Mournful Cry
Flails are just plain fun to use as they are one of the best parts of the game and you should equip this weapon at least once during your time playing Valhalla. It is a single-handed weapon and you basically swing it around in the air and it deals quite a bit of damage to surrounding opponents. The only downside is that it does have a tendency to cause desynchronization if too many civilians are standing nearby due to the way this weapon works.
The Flails in the game include:
- Iron Star Flail
- Spinning-Death Flail
- Hag’s Bite
- Soldier’s Flail
Daggers are the fastest one-handed weapon of all, and this is obvious once you come across an opponent known as a reaver. They utilize this weapon to take small jabs at you that slowly deplete your health. Big hits might not deal as much damage, but if dodging is your strength then this is the weapon for you.
There are several daggers in the game and they are:
- Yngling Seax
- Suttungr’s Claw
The Greatsword is a two-handed weapon, but what it lacks in speed it makes up for in damage. The weight isn’t terrible, and some runes can even help reduce this to help make Eivor faster in a fight.
The Greatswords included in the game are as follows:
- Carolingian Longsword
- Surtr Sword
A Dane Axe is another classic Viking weapon and it requires two hands to use it. Many love to dual wield this weapon as it gives them a special ability that can mow down an opponent’s health. It is one perk on the skill tree that comes in handy when you prefer weapons that deal more damage compared to speed.
There are several Dane Axes in the game and they are:
- Sepulcher Axe
- Aella’s Bardiche
- Battle Sparth Axe
- Lagertha’s Axe
- Vordr’s Bite
- Hemming’s Axe
A Spear is a two-handed weapon, but it is the fastest of them due to the fact that you can do quick jabs from a distance. It is even faster than some hammers and players love how it puts distance between them and their opponent during a fight. Many recommend this in fights against certain legendary animals due to their quick and deadly fighting styles.
The Spears in the game include:
- Fafnir’s Fang
- Fyrd Spear
- Cadfarch Spear
- Odin’s Spear Gungnir
A Hunter Bow is useful for hunting down animals, as it says in its name, but it can be used in combat as well. It is a very balanced bow for those looking for something that deals a decent amount of damage and isn’t super slow.
The Hunter Bows you can wield is as follows:
- Hunnish Bow
- Death Speaker
- Arc of Elan
The Predator Bow deals more damage to an opponent than a light bow, but it isn’t’ very fast. The view that Eivor has when shooting this bow is a bit different as well, which can turn players away from choosing to wield this weapon. You will also carry fewer arrows when using this weapon, so it is something else to consider before choosing to use it.
The Predator Bows you can choose from are:
- Recurve Bow
- Petra’s Arc
Speed is the name of the game with this bow and this fact alone makes up for its lack of damage and it helps Eivor become overpowered. It is a great bow for players who can hit their shots as firing a succession of multiple arrows will deal more damage than the time it takes you to shoot the same amount of shots from the others.
There are several Light Bows you can use in the game, such as:
- Viper Bow
- Skadi’s Wrath
- Hunbeorth’s Bow
- Death-Skald Bow
- Spartan Bow
A Light Shield provides you with protection, can deal some damage, and barely slows you down. If you are a master at parrying then this is the weapon you should equip, especially since some of their perks are amazing. This won’t make you as fast as if you were just wielding two daggers, but it will enhance your play by adding a new way to defend yourself.
The Light Shields in the game are as follows:
- Raven Clan Shield
- Hrafn Guard
- Spartan Shield
- Shishi Guard Shield
- The Morrigan’s Guard
- Drekar Shield
- Ursine Guard
- Briton Shield
- Blodwulf Shield
A Heavy Shield is massive and heavy, which is why Eivor will pay for it with speed. They can block bigger attacks and deal quite a bit of attack damage, but some hate how slow it makes Eivor in her movements.
The Heavy Shields in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla include:
- Kite Shield
- Oaken Kite Shield
- Plank And Buckler Shield
- Sarcophagus Shield
- Royal Guard
- Hircocervus Scale
- Rune Shield
