Call Of Duty: Warzone Rebirth Island map and new operator confirmed
A remake of Blackout’s Alcatraz map is coming to Call Of Duty: Warzone, as the latest season one trailer showcases new operator Stitch.
After a brief delay, the hype train for season one of Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone is back under way, with a new trailer that confirms datamined rumours about the return of Blackout’s Alcatraz map.
Blackout was the battle royale mode from last year’s Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and earlier in the month dataminers found evidence of something called Rebirth Island in Warzone, which has now been referenced by the new video.
The video also introduces a new operator called Vikhor ‘Stitch’ Kuzmin, who’s an ex-KGB officer and head of the Nova 6 chemical weapons facility on Rebirth Island.
Rebirth Island is believed to be a remake of Blackout’s Alcatraz map, although the degree to which it will be different is not yet clear.
According to the background lore it was shut down in the 60s and then brought back online in the 80s – the setting of Black Ops Cold War’s story campaign.
Rebirth Island is expected to be playable as a standalone map and as a separate mode in Warzone, with season one now planned to start on December 16.
The video also teases a new multiplayer map based around a mall in New Jersey, which was also leaked recently by dataminers.
One thing you don’t need dataminers for though is the ‘new Gulag experience’ that Activision promised last week. The Gulag offers a chance to return to the match if you die in Warzone but it’s not yet clear what’s going to be different about it in season one.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Warzone is also available as a free, standalone game.
