Epic Says Fortnite Is Ready For Next-Gen With A Serious Graphics Upgrade

Fortnite is ready. That’s what Epic is saying about their ludicrously popular battle royale game. On day one for both the Xbox Series X and PS5 launches, players will be able to download Fortnite and start enjoying next-gen gameplay straight from the word “go.”

And today, Epic laid out just what those features will be. For both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, 4K resolution and 60 frames-per-second are both standard. Dynamic visuals and physics will enhance the game world by making trees and grass bend away from explosions and making smoke and water look more like real-life. There’s also all-new storm and cloud effects to contend with too.

Faster loading times will see Fortnite fans get into their games faster than ever before, and split-screen multiplayer will also hit that vaunted 60 fps standard.

For the Xbox Series S, a slightly downgraded 1080p and 60fps will be the rule, along with “most of the visual enhancements available on the Series X.”

For the PS5, DualSense haptic feedback will “feel like you’re holding the Suppressed SMG or Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle.” You’ll also be able to select which battle royale mode you prefer straight from the home screen, so you’ll be able to head straight into solo, duo, or squad matchmaking.

And since everything is based on your player profile, so long as you’re using the same account to login with on either the PS5 or Xbox Series X, you’ll retain all your cosmetics and progression from the old console.

Even if you’re not getting a next-gen upgrade, Epic is giving away a free classic axe from Fortnite Chapter 1. The Throwback Axe Pickaxe will be available for all Fortnite players on every platform from November 4 to January 15, 2021. You can grab it in-game or from the PlayStation Store.

The Xbox Series X arrives November 10, while the PlayStation 5 hits store shelves November 12.
