Fortnite DOWN: Offline server status update for 8.50 Avengers Endgame release
Fortnite has been taken offline for the release of update 8.50.
While downtime officially begins at 10am BST in the UK, fans will be unable to login about 20 minutes beforehand.
The downtime was announced by Epic Games on Twitter, alongside a hint about the Fortnite x Avengers event.
“*Snap* Balance will be restored,” reads an Epic Games tweet. “Downtime for the v8.50 update starts tomorrow, April 25 at 5AM ET(0900 UTC).”
The downtime will coincide with the release of a major new numbered update.
While there’s no official end time for the offline server maintenance, fans can expect the game to return at around midday.
While fans will be unable to play during the downtime, Epic Games will release a lengthy list of patch notes to peruse.
In the meantime, fans have been speculating about the nature of the Fortnite x Avengers LTM.
It’s possible the limited time mode will share similarities with last year’s event, which shined the spotlight on Thanos.
The event tasked players with finding the Infinity Gauntlet, which would turn them into Thanos. As Thanos, players would gain incredible powers, but would lose the Infinity Gauntlet when killed.
In true Battle Royale fashion, the last person standing would be crowned winner.
Recently released Fortnite x Avengers teasers suggest the new event will expand on the format and perhaps even launch with new skins.
The first Avengers Endgame teasers featured a Fortnite character holding Captain America’s shield.
This was followed by a second teaser featuring Thor’s Hammer.
The third and final teaser, which was accompanied by a message telling fans to do “whatever it takes”, featured Raptor wearing Iron Man’s gauntlets.
While the teasers could be hinting at new skins, it’s also possible that players will be able to transform into these Marvel characters as part of the LTM.
