Fortnite downtime for 11.40 patch update confirmed by Epic Games

Fortnite fans have been patiently waiting for details on the games next big update and now we finally have some news.

Fortnite Update 11.40 will arrive tomorrow morning, January 15, 2020. Epic Games have also confirmed there will be server downtime followed by the game's latest patch notes.

A tweet from the Fortnite Status twitter account confirmed the news, writing:

"Hi, all! v11.40 tomorrow. Downtime for the patch begins at 4 AM ET (0900 UTC).Stay tuned for updates when downtime ends."

How long will Fortnite servers be down?

Downtime will begin at 9am GMT for everyone in the UK. That's 1am PST and 4am EST. So those playing in the states, have a long night ahead of them.

It's still unclear how long the game will be offline, but it's certainly worth assuming that the game will be inaccessible for anything between 2-3 hours. So we'll probably see it come back online by around 11-12pm.

It's also worth noting that this is the first update in several weeks, so it's likely going to be a pretty sizeable update, filled with plenty of new features, and content to keep fans occupied.

We suspect that there will also be new Overtime Challenges added to the game, although these might not go live until later this week.

“The Chapter 2 Season 1 Overtime Challenges have begun,” Epic Games posted last week.

“You may have met the alter egos of Remedy and others, but it appears that more alternative forms exist. Unlock these new forms by completing Overtime Challenges!

“The Week 1 Mission of the Overtime Challenges is available now — complete the Challenges in the Mission to earn special styles.”

We imagine that week 2 will arrive later this week, but we suspect that dataminers will probably leak some of the goodies tomorrow morning ahead of time.
