Fortnite now has a Crazy Taxi mode and it’s pretty great
Dreamcast classic Crazy Taxi has been given an unofficial homage in Fortnite, via the time limited mode Tilted Taxis.
Until recently, driving vehicles has only been a minor part of Fortnite, although there has been everything from mechs to speedboats at various times. The recent emphasis has been on cars though and that’s inspired a brand new LTM involving taxis.
Following on from the JoyRide update, Epic Games has added Tilted Taxis, were you have to compete with other taxi drivers to pick up passengers and drop them off at their destination.
To win you have to be the first to hit the target number of star ratings, with different passengers offering different sized fares. Although you can also earn more by pulling off tricks like jumping off ramps and ramming other taxis.
Although because it’s Fortnite you can still jump out of your cab and just shoot people as normal, which certainly wasn’t a part of Crazy Taxi, and you also don’t have to worry about fuel.
Since it is a time limited mode Tilted Taxis won’t be around forever but it’s available now and currently doesn’t have an end date.
Although there’s been a few ports and mobile spin-offs since, the last proper Crazy Taxi game was Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller for the original Xbox and PC.
Since then Sega has shown no interest in making a new one, although the series is occasionally referenced in things like Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing.
