GTA 6 Release Date Warning: This PS5 exclusive rumour sounds bogus
The GTA 6 hype train continues to rumble on but the latest rumour doing the rounds is in danger of going right off the tracks because of just how bonkers it potentially sounds.
Despite already having quite a full plate as it is, what with bringing Red Dead Redemption 2 to PC, which at this stage is all but confirmed thanks to several leaks earlier this year, it's claimed that GTA will launch holiday 2020.
As if that wasn't bonkers enough, the rumour also goes one step further in suggesting that the game could potentially be a timed Sony exclusive.
Bad news for Xbox fans? We seriously doubt it, because even at it's source the rumour is somewhat suspect.
SegmentNext (Via Daily Express ) has suggested that a PS5 leak originating from Pastebin last December is looking more and more believable.
Why does this involve GTA 6? Well, the leak tangentially mentioned that GTA 6 would release on the PS5 Holiday 2020.
“Back in December 2018, an anonymous third-party developer from Europe claimed that GTA 6 will be releasing on PlayStation 5 during the holiday season of 2020.
“The same leak also suggested that Sony has struck a deal with Rockstar Games to keep GTA 6 exclusive to its new-generation console for an entire month. In addition, the setting will be either Miami or New York.
“There was obviously no way to confirm the claims back then. What happened was that the same leak also included information about PlayStation 5, most of which Sony officially confirmed earlier this year. Hence, giving credibility to the leak.”
GTA 6 Rumours, Leaks and News
Whilst you could maybe give some weight to the rumour, it feel a bit of a stretch at this stage to suspect there's anything about the rumour which has been proved right.
SegementNext suggestion that the leak has been proved right because the PS5 is looking increasingly likely to have specs such as ray tracing, backwards compatibility and 8K visuals.
Ray Tracing has been the hot new tech for over a year on PC, so it stands to reason it would come to next-gen consoles in a big way. Backwards compatibility is again a no brainer due to fan demand and how popular it's been on Xbox. Whilst 8K graphics seems like the only natural step when current consoles are already outputting at 4K.

So what, if anything, has the rumour proved?
There's a throwaway line about a Sony Dualshock controller containing a camera, which has also been seen in a Sony patent more recently,
However, we wouldn't rule out that this has been a common feature long suggested for months on end. It all just seems a bit, obvious?
The most suspect part of the rumour, however, is that the game could be exclusive to Sony at launch, which just seems, completely implausible.
When will GTA 6 release?
13000+ VOTES SO FAR
Rockstar has always been a developer that famously doesn't need to play ball with the whole console wars scenario.
They don't attend E3, they barely attend any functions in fact. They play by their own rules and release games in their own time.
And in turn, other developers will move heaven and earth to get out their way. We saw that with Call of Duty Black Ops 4 in 2018.
In fairness, with Red Dead Redemption 2 they've indulged in a bit with some timed exclusive modes and the odd throwing axe.
But to release their hottest selling IP exclusive to one console, no wait, on a brand new console, over the Christmas period when most games and consoles are sold, would be madness.

We're wincing at the mere thought of exactly how much money Sony would need to throw at the particular scenario for it to actually happen.
And, if Sony were the dominant console, it's hard to imagine why they would need to.
Rockstar know they sell by the bucket load, GTA 5 being the best selling PS4 game in August says it all, so we doubt they feel like they need to take a deal like that.
Not when they could sell to both consoles and rake in the case on microtransactions as they surely do now with GTA 5.

Couple this with the fact that, with just a year to go until those new consoles launch (supposedly with GTA 6) Rockstar hasn't said a peep. And typically, Rockstar like to announce themselves to the world a good two years out from a games release.
Assuming they don't also delay it like they did with Red Dead Redemption 2, and there's no way Sony will splash the cash if they were going to push the game back beyond a holiday period.
I guess what we're trying to say, is don't worry Xbox fans.
We don't think this rumour holds much weight, and even if what little it does say about the PS5 does turn out to be proven correct, we very much doubt what it mentions about GTA 6 will come true.
