Halo 2 Streamer Beats Legendary All Skulls On Challenge, Wins $20,000

Last month, Twitch streamer and YouTuber MoistCr1TiKaL put out a bounty of $20,000 for anyone who could beat Halo 2 on Legendary difficulty with all Skulls on without dying – otherwise known as a LASO run. It had never been done, but someone rose to the challenge and pulled it off.

Streamer JerValiN decided to tackle this challenge on August 3, streaming it live to an audience of eager onlookers (thanks, GamesRadar). The only Skull you can't use in a LASO run is the Envy Skull that gives you an invisibility cloak, something that JerValiN used in his last attempt.

The bounty was actually first placed back in June, but it was for $5,000. In July, MoistCr1TiKaL raised it to $20,000 to try and incentivise more people to give it a try. JerValiN took note and finally got it done by using glitches and skips, treating it like an especially difficult speedrun.

The LASO run is notorious among Halo fans because Skulls significantly raise enemy damage while also reducing your health – you might as well slap a fragile warning over your forehead while you fend off the Covenant. They even improve enemy fire rate, let them spam grenades, and up their rank, so you're fighting tougher, more capable enemies, all while you've been nerfed back to the 21st century.

Skulls are only icing on the difficulty cake as Halo 2's Legendary mode is already notorious for being imbalanced. To say it's a challenge is an understatement. Regardless, JerValiN managed to do it in a single six-hour, 29-minute, and 44-second sitting. If you fancy watching the whole thing, you can, but it might be best to wait for the highlights.

In the meantime, if you want something a little easier that won't have you pulling your hair out, there's always the Halo Infinite co-op campaign beta. Only there's a bit of a hiccup. Players have been reporting that when their co-op partner drives a car, marines won't fill the seats, but this is by design. 343 Industries doesn't want things to be too easy, so you can't rope in two squads to help you plough through the story.
