Judy And Male V Romance Was Not Cut From Cyberpunk 2077, Says CD Projekt Red

Note: This article contains spoilers for Cyberpunk 2077.

After Cyberpunk 2077 modders discovered unused voice-over work for male V during the Judy romance scene, CD Projekt Red has stepped forward to announce that the content was not cut during production.

Judy is one of several romantic partners you can “woo” in Cyberpunk 2077. However, the official, unmodded version of the game will only give that option to players running as the female version of V. Post-release mods have already changed that, giving male V the chance to win over Judy through the use of a brief code submitted through the console command. Oddly enough, not only does it let you romance Judy as male V, but it comes complete with male V voice over work for the entire scene.

Players were quick to cry foul, claiming that the existence of male V audio proved CD Projekt Red had cut the content from the game. After all, why would you include extra audio if you have no intention of using it?

Well, it turns out there’s a good reason for it.

“It was simply more convenient and easier for our localization team from a production point of view to record all lines with both voices, so we could avoid missing something by mistake that would require future recordings,” explained CD Projekt Red. “This was done with pretty much everything just to be on the safe side although it can vary between the different languages.”

The statement goes on to explain that Judy was always meant to be a romance partner for female V alone, and the male V option wasn’t cut to speed up production.

No doubt modders will come across more audio like this as they continue to dig into the game’s files. CD Projekt Red apparently produced male and female V audio for “pretty much everything,” so it should be easy for modders to unlock any content that is currently locked behind gender.

As is usually the case, the Judy-Male V mod is only available on PC.
