Lollipop Chainsaw remake is official – coming 2023 with new graphics and music

We don’t have a trailer, but a remake for Lollipop Chainsaw has been announced by the game’s producer and it’s coming next year.

It was announced a few weeks ago that cult classic Lollipop Chainsaw would be making some kind of comeback, but the exact nature of it was unclear.

Now, we have official confirmation that the game is seeing a fully-fledged remake, releasing as early as next year.

The news comes from Lollipop Chainsaw producer Yoshimi Yasuda, who explains that his new studio, Dragami Games, has acquired the IP from the original publisher, Kadokawa Games.

What’s more, Warner Bros. (which published the game outside of Japan) is supporting the project too and the remake’s development staff consists of those who worked on the original release, alongside staff at Dragami Games.

As for why this remake is even happening in the first place, it’s simply because Lollipop Chainsaw isn’t as freely available anymore, having released 10 years ago for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

‘Various factors resulted in things making it so that fans can no longer easily play Lollipop Chainsaw, and it has been some time since players have not been able to access the game on current consoles,’ read a message from Yasuda.

‘We, the original development staff on Lollipop Chainsaw, think of the game as very precious to us, and did not want to leave it in limbo, where players who want to play it cannot.’

The video game equivalent of a schlocky B-movie, Lollipop Chainsaw was directed by No More Heroes creator Suda51, with a script written by James Gunn of Guardians Of The Galaxy fame.

Yasuda hasn’t commented if either of them will have any involvement with the remake.
