Overwatch Anniversary 2019 COUNTDOWN: New Skins, Event Start Date, Time on PS4, Xbox, PC

Overwatch players and Blizzard developers alike are counting down to this year’s in-game Anniversary, which is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC tomorrow – May 21st, 2019.

This is the third time that Blizzard will run the event which is designed as a celebration the game’s original release date way back in 2016.

The developers confirmed the event would be returning last week, and as ever, we’ve been getting information teased out to us as the days progress.

Last year, we saw the Anniversary event sit between the Retribution Uprising event (which was renamed to Storm Rising this year), ahead of the Summer Games event that launched in August/

Teasing fans, Blizzard revealed the event would be making a return last week:

“Let’s get this party started! ” read a tweet. “The Overwatch Anniversary celebration begins on May 21!”

As is now traditional, we’ve seen a couple of skins surface online, too – you can learn everything we know about the in-game event so far below.

OVERWATCH ANNIVERSARY – Start Time

As ever, the Overwatch event will kick off in the early evening for us Brits – that’s something we’ve gotten used to over the past three years of the game’s history.

As such, you can expect the event to start at 6pm GMT on May 21 2019.

The event will likely run until June 10th at 6pm – unless Blizzard decides to extend to the event this year for any reason. We sometimes see this when there’s downtime issues, or problems with the game during the free play periods (see more on that below).

We’ll keep you updated if and when Blizzard decides to make any changes to this schedule.

OVERWATCH ANNIVERSARY – WHAT’S INVOLVED?

Brawls

You will be able to play the game for free on any platform for a week – running from May 21 to May 28.

New Items/Cosmetics

Blizzard will introduce six new Legendary skins to the game (so far we’ve only seen Academy D. Va, below)
• Blizzard will be adding three new Epic skins to the game
• Ashe, Baptiste and Wrecking Ball will get new dance emotes

Free Loot Box

• If you log in during the celebration week (May 21 until May 28), which guarantees you at least one Legendary item

How Much Will Skins (old and new) Cost?

During returning Overwatch events, old skins were available to unlock via the credits system.

As an added bonus, the old skins introduced previously were also available at a slightly cheaper price.

For example, during the second Summer Games event, past skins cost 1,000 credits, instead of the 3,000 credits it usually takes to unlock limited Legendary skins. Whilst new skins were sold at 3,000 credits.

New Summer Games 2017 cosmetic items were valued at 3,000 for Legendary Skins, 750 credits for Epic skins, 225 credits for Rare tier items and 75 credits for common tier items.

That’s compared to returning Legendary skins at 1,000 credits, Epic skins for 250 credits and rare tier items for 75 credits and Common tier items for just 25 credits.

We suspect and assume Blizzard will use a similar structure for the new and returning skins and items for this Anniversary event.
