Patapon 2 Is Getting A Remaster And Really Soon

Patapon 2 is getting a remaster and its releasing really soon. Like, this week soon! Having been announced almost three years ago, Sony confirmed this morning that Patapon 2 Remastered is right around the corner. PS4 players will be able to experience the quirky rhythm game on their big-screen TVs starting January 30, 2020.

Much like the remaster of the original Patapon back in 2017, Patapon 2 will go for $14.99 on the PlayStation Store. It will have support for 4K output on PS4 Pro, upscaling its beautiful art to much larger displays. Nothing else is being added to this port, which falls in line with the original’s PS4 debut.

Still, even without extra content, Patapon 2 is an excellent game. This quirky series of rhythm titles fell under the radar when it came out for the PSP nearly 15 years ago. Highly praised for its innovative gameplay, these PS4 releases have given players a chance to see what all of the hype was about. It’s well worth taking a trip, though you’re probably better starting with the original versus its sequel.

Patapon 2 is notable for basically doubling the size of the original game. A ton of different units and mechanics are placed on top of what the original started. It can be daunting to jump straight into this title, but you thankfully won’t have to make a tough call. Patapon Remastered is ready and waiting on the PlayStation Store for you.

What remains to be seen is if Sony will conclude the trilogy on PS4. With the PS5 right around the corner, there doesn’t seem to be much reason to keep pumping out PS4 remasters. At the same time, Patapon is able to effortlessly run in 4K on PS4 Pro, so it would be a perfect fit for the PS5’s beefier hardware. The PS5 is heavily rumored to have full backward compatibility with Sony’s current platform.

Here’s hoping we don’t lose out on Patapon 3 Remastered. If you enjoy the original, be sure to grab this game so you can complete your journey with these funky little dudes. Patapon deserves to make a comeback and it would be great to see a fourth entry made possible next-generation.
