Stranger Things VR Game Lets You Play As Vecna

The publisher behind the massively popular show Stranger Things, Netflix, recently revealed that an upcoming virtual reality game called Stranger Things VR is going to let you play as the primary antagonist of the fourth season, Vecna. Players will be able to terrorize the small town of Hawkins, Indiana starting at some point in “Winter 2023,” at least according to Netflix.

“Play as Vecna in this new Stranger Things adventure in VR,” the official description of the announcement video explains. “Become an explorer of unknown realities as you form the hive mind and tame the void. Invade minds and conjure nightmares in your quest to enact revenge on Eleven and Hawkins.”

Stranger Things VR is described as a “psychological horror/ action game developed by Tender Claws and coming to major VR platforms in Winter 2023.” The game is part of an ongoing collaboration with developer Tender Claws, mostly known for a variety of different VR games including Virtual Virtual Reality and Virtual Virtual Reality 2, titles verbatim.

The game was revealed during Stranger Things Day on November 6, 2022. The publisher and developer showed off only a little bit of the game, presenting a short teaser trailer featuring a ticking clock, demogorgons, and a brief appearance by the primary protagonist of the show, Eleven.

This only represents the latest in a growing list of crossover content for Stranger Things. In addition to books and a podcast, the show has already gotten a game called Stranger Things: The VR Experience along with multiple mobile games including Stranger Things: The Game and Stranger Things 3: The Game, titles again verbatim. The series was even going to get an episodic adventure experience from developer Telltale Games before the company ran into financial trouble back in September, 2018.
