Streets Of Rage 4 music features the original Mega Drive composers
The new beat ‘em-up sequel has a star-studded line-up of musicians, that have worked on everything from Street Fighter II to Sonic The Hedgehog.
There hasn’t been a new Streets Of Rage game since the Mega Drive era and most fans had long ago given up hope that there’d ever be another one. But, miraculously, there is and it suddenly just got even more interesting.
Streets Of Rage 4 is by a team of developers that worked on games including Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap and fan game Streets Of Fury, so they have plenty of experience with replicating old school gameplay.
But to ensure the music is as authentic as possibly they’ve signed up Yūzō Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima, both of whom worked on the original games – with Koshiro also contributing to the likes of Sonic The Hedgehog and Shenmue.
That’s an especially important detail to get right because the Streets Of Rage games are widely considered to have some of the best music of the whole 16-bit era.
Also contributing to the new soundtrack is industry legend Yoko Shimomura, most famous for the soundtrack to Street Fighter II, along with Jet Set Radio veteran Hideki Naganuma and Ninja Gaiden’s Keiji Yamagishi.
It seems like the perfect line-up and while we’re still not sold on the new art style, the soundtrack should be worth the price of admission alone.
The only problem is that the game still doesn’t have any kind of release date, and it’s not even clear if it’ll be out this year.
