The Mandalorian: Meet Ming-Na Wen's Star Wars Assassin Fennec Shand
Ming-Na Wen's Star Wars character has finally been revealed. The Agents of SHIELD actress will be appearing in The Mandalorian: Season 1 as an assassin named Fennec Shand. The reveal comes from Vanity Fair, which notes Shand will encounter the titular bounty hunter roughly midway through the first season. Vanity Fair also debuted a brief new trailer for the series, which includes a scene where Shand tells Pedro Pascal's character, "Your name will be legendary."
“We got our inspiration really from the name. The idea of a fennec fox came to mind,” Wen told Vanity Fair. “She’s tricky, and yet she’s able to maneuver and survive, and be stealthy—so very graceful and agile. I just love that whole image with the name.”
When asked about Shand's morality and loyalties, Wen indicated her character is neither good nor evil, but "definitely someone who’s loyal to herself.” In that sense, Shand should fit right in with the show's cast of bounty hunters, warlords and scoundrels.
The Vanity Fair article also confirms earlier rumors that Nick Nolte is voicing the Ugnaught character glimpsed in the trailers. That character's name is Kuiil, and he can also be seen conversing with Pascal's character in the new trailer. Kuiil tells him, "I have never met a Mandalorian. I've only read the stories."The cast of The Mandalorian also includes Gina Carano as ex-Rebel soldier Cara Dune, Carl Weathers as Greef Carga, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon and Taika Waititi as the voice of IG-11. We also recently got our first look at Bill Burr's unnamed outlaw character.
