Witcher 3 developer makes surprise Nintendo Switch claims – and it’s good news for fans
The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch was one of the biggest surprises of this year’s E3 – or at least it would have been if it wasn’t for that leak.
While the rumours of a Switch port had been doing the rounds for a while, it was still a shock to find out that the hugely popular game would be squeezed onto Nintendo’s console.
Even more surprising are the claims made by CD Projekt’s Alvin Liu, who told VGC that nothing will be cut for the upcoming Switch release.
Indeed, the only major difference will be with the user-interface, which has always been a problem on consoles.
“You’ll get the full Witcher 3 and all expansions,” Liu said. “We’re not really cutting anything.
“The biggest changes that we made involve the user interface and how you interact is a bit different on the Switch compared to other versions.
“I think if this is your first experience with The Witcher 3, then you’re going to be really thrilled and enjoy it. Our company is pretty proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
During the illuminating interview, Liu also discussed the hardware trade-offs, admitting that draw distances are lower.
Porting a game as big and detailed as The Witcher 3 also requires a lot of storage, something which CD Projekt recently discussed on Twitter.
CD Projekt told fans that the game will weigh in at approximately 32GB on Switch.
Of course, the larger file size probably has something to do with the fact that the Switch version contains the base game and all post-release content drops and expansions.
This includes the Hearts of Stone expansion and the excellent Blood and Wine. Unfortunately, however, it won’t support cross-saves with Xbox One and PS4.
According to another CD Projekt tweet, the game will run at 540p in handheld mode and 720p on the big screen.
Dynamic resolution will also be supported when the Nintendo Switch is docked.
The game doesn’t have a firm release date on Nintendo Switch, although it has been confirmed for 2019.
