Challenging Borderlands 3 boss nerfed in latest hotfix

Borderlands 3 was released last month, and as it turns out, some of its bosses were a bit too strong. Developer Gearbox Software issued a hotfix on Oct. 3 to nerf three Borderlands 3 bosses, Gigamind; Katagawa Ball; and Billy the Anointed — the last of which was really a drag.

Here’s the breakdown: Gigamind’s health has been reduced “slightly,” while Katagawa Ball won’t have regenerative shields. “We found that while players contended with the adds during the fight, it would unfairly regenerate its shield, negating the players’ progress,” Gearbox wrote in the patch notes. For Billy the Anointed, Gearbox removed 25 percent of his health. Players have been complaining about Billy the Anointed since the game’s release — calling him “awful,” “bullshit,” and just, in general, really hard. The developer agreed with players that “this fight dragged on needlessly,” and with 25 percent less health, at least the (still hard) fight will be less of a struggle.

Borderlands 3’s anniversary celebration kicks off with better legendary drops

Gearbox said it’ll keep an eye on the bosses and make future adjustments if needed.

Alongside Borderlands 3’s boss nerfs, Gearbox made a few balance adjustments to two Vault hunters, FL4K and Moze. FL4K’s changes are a bit more substantial. Here are the notes, straight from Gearbox:

Rakk Attack! status effect chance as been increased to 100%.

Leave No Trace now has a re-trigger delay of 2 seconds

Barbaric Yawp stat bonus increased by 100%

Pets no longer push around player characters

“Touch Pet” prompt is now a lower priority and should no longer interfere with looting or vending machines

“Rakk Attack! is great for constant damage output, especially when paired with Anointed gear,” Gearbox said of the changes. “The base skill still seems to be lacking, so Rakk Attack! now has a guaranteed status effect on any enemy that it damages.”

For Moze, Gearbox targeted a bug that gave the Vault Hunter infinite grenades. “To lower the power (and spam) of this build, a re-trigger delay has been added to the grenade portion of Means of Destruction,” Gearbox said. Means of Destruction’s delay is now two seconds.

The Oct. 3 Borderlands 3 patch should hit all platforms by 6 p.m. EDT, Gearbox said.
