New Super Monkey Ball title leaks via rating board

Sega is bringing the Super Monkey Ball franchise back with a new title for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC, according to a listing from Taiwan’s Digital Game Rating Committee. Sega has not officially announced the new Super Monkey Ball game and a Sega of America spokesperson said the company does not comment on rumors and speculation.

The unannounced game is titled Tabegoro! Super Monkey Ball in Japanese. Tabegoro means “ripe” or “ready to eat,” which would clearly tie into the banana-collecting themes of the Monkey Ball franchise. Sega reportedly registered a trademark in Japan for Tabegoro! Super Monkey Ball back in May.

Other than that, we have little to go on, other that a small piece of artwork and logo that shows the monkey AiAi holding a banana.

It’s been a long time since a new Super Monkey Ball was released on a console platform. The most recent entry in the franchise, Super Monkey Ball Bounce, was released for Android and iOS devices in 2014. Prior to that, Sega released Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz for PlayStation Vita in 2012, Super Monkey Ball 3D for Nintendo 3DS in 2011, and Super Monkey Ball: Step and Roll for Wii in 2010.

The franchise kicked off with 2001’s arcade game Monkey Ball, which was later adapted for GameCube under the name Super Monkey Ball.
